A bakery is born! The customers at The Erotic Bakery are always treated to a fun adult atmosphere. Many times they ask the big question: Who thought to open such a delightful establishment in the fine Wallingford District of Seattle?

The Bakery is currently owned by Brian and Kimmie Barnett of Kent, WA.

Robert Prado, the original owner of the bakery had a dream. Mr Prado, hailing from a small town in Colorado had visited the Seattle area and fell in love with the people and places that make Seattle the fun city it is. He moved to the area with his friend James Burton and was soon joined by Robert Clough and opened the only other erotic bakery in the nation to specialize in hand rolled marzipan erotic cakes. He borrowed the concept of the bakery from one near his hometown called Le Bakery Sensual.

Prior to opening, Mr Prado received very little controversy from the locals, and any he did receive was the best press he could have hoped for. The press was so positive that they moved the opening date up to accommodate the request for his wares. He proudly opened the bakery, then called "Marzi Tarts" on April 4th 1986 at 10:00 A.M. with a line worthy of crowd control stations. The opening caused such a hub bub that the president of the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce and a local bank president made their way through the crowds to see the offerings, which had sold out so quickly that they had to make a return trip later that week.

What made Mr. Prado's vision a unique one was to take marzipan and hand make sculptures on cakes and the idea was a huge success. Not only did the marzipan adorn the tops of cakes with flair unlike any other type of erotic bakery, but he also found this method could transform any cake into a wonderland of cake extravaganzas! From mild to wild, the public soon realized that this was one bakery that could deliver their unusual requests like no other. Soon Mr. Prado began offering cards and gifts along with the specialty cakes that the customer's vision demanded.

The Erotic Bakery became a major Seattle icon, worthy of mention on local radio and television shows on a regular basis. So many people would try to locate "that erotic bakery" that it become apparent a name change was in order. The Erotic Bakery name was born. It seemed to put it all into perspective. Long time customers still refer to the bakery as Marzi Tarts.

The bakery has won many awards over the years including Most Unusual Business in the Seattle area many times. We are listed in the Best of Seattle places to visit book, published on an annual basis, and listed every year. Other awards include Most Outrageous Cake and Best of Show, in conjunction with the NARAL Chocolate for Choice Awards for many years running and best Cupcakes with Testicles from the Seattle Weekly. New awards include Best of Advertisers from The Stranger.

In 1999, Mr Prado decided to retire to become a spy, using the cover of a triangle player in a local band, or so he says. Brian and Kim Barnett, current proprietors, eagerly purchased the bakery. Brian and Kim come from an extensive background in the area of adult boutiques. Brian's family owns Peekay Inc, Peekay Wholesalers (manufactures/wholesalers for lotions, potions, and adult merchandise, and XXXpress Toys/ACS in Auburn, Washington. In addition, their family owns Lovers Package stores located throughout Western Washington and Arizona, as well as A Touch of Romance stores, located in Southern California. Brian is the Vice President of Wholesale/E-Commerce, he works with product development and has been in charge of the Internet sales and fulfillment since 1981. Kim was the buyer for Lovers Package for 13 years. After the birth of their first son, Bennie, Kim retired from Peekay, Inc. and saw the vision Mr. Prado had for the bakery. With the birth of their second son, Brandon, the bakery was bought.
